Honey App Review: Is This Cashback Deal Actually Real?

You spend money online. Honey wants to give some of it back to you. Most people search everywhere to find better prices – checking different stores, looking for coupons, and trying to earn cashback. It takes ages, and you’re never sure if you found the best price.

Honey changes this. It’s a tool that checks prices and finds discount codes while you shop. When you browse online stores, Honey searches its system to find working coupon codes. It also shows you if the same item costs less somewhere else.

I know what you’re thinking… another shopping app making big promises? Well, let’s look at what Honey actually does for you.

You won’t need to open 20 tabs anymore to compare prices. You won’t have to search through random coupon websites either. Honey does this work for you. It looks through its database and finds codes that actually work.

But here’s what matters – does this app actually help you save money? Or is it just another empty promise?

This review will show you exactly how Honey works. You’ll see what it can (and can’t) do before you try it. After reading this, you’ll know if installing Honey makes sense for you.

I’ll walk you through everything about Honey – the way it works, what you might earn, and whether it’s safe to use. No guessing games, just clear info about what you’re getting into.

What is Honey, and How Does It Work?

When you shop online, Honey works as an app that sends money back to your account. You can add it to your computer or phone, and it finds savings while you browse.

Some people wonder if this app actually works…

I tested Honey myself and found it sends real cashback payments when you buy something through their offers. Anyone doubting this system should know – the money shows up, no tricks involved.

Install the Honey extension for Google Chrome and get real money rewards when you shop online
Add Honey to your Chrome browser and receive cashback from all your online shopping.

But wait a second… knowing it works doesn’t mean you should start using it today. First, you’ll need to understand exactly what happens when you start saving with Honey.

I’ll walk you through the specific ways you can make money with this app.

How does Honey turn your online shopping into cash rewards?

Shopping online? Honey helps you earn money back on what you buy. It works in two ways:

  • First up, there’s a browser tool you can add to Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.

Once you put it on your browser, it starts working right away. When you shop online, the tool spots if that store gives money back through Honey. If it does, you’ll automatically earn cash when you buy something there.

  • The second way works through their phone app.

You’ll see a list of all the stores giving cash back. Just pick where you want to shop, and the app sends you there. Buy what you need like normal, and you’ll earn your rewards.

Now… there’s something important about getting your money. It takes between 60 to 90 days before the cash shows up in your Honey account. You’ll need some patience here!

I should mention something else about Honey’s store options. They work with fewer stores than other cash back companies like MyPoints or Picodi do. This means you might not always find rewards at your favorite shops.

Wait, what’s that? You’re looking for more places to earn cash back? There are some other options:

  • EarnApp lets you make money by sharing internet you aren’t using – perfect if you’re just starting out
  • CashYeah rewards people in over 40 countries
  • FreeCash pays you actual money to play games and try new apps

Can Automatic Coupon Finders save you cash while shopping online?

I’ll tell you what… automatic coupons won’t put money in your pocket, but they’ll help you spend less when you shop online. Take Honey’s coupon finder – it checks thousands of discounts and puts in the codes for you. This comes in handy if you don’t have time to search for promo codes before buying something.

But here’s what I found out after using it… Honey isn’t perfect at finding every single discount out there. Sometimes I saw coupon codes right on the store’s front page that Honey didn’t catch. This shows their list of coupons isn’t always up to date.

And sometimes things don’t work as smoothly as they should. There were times when the automatic testing didn’t kick in at all. I had to look through all the options (usually more than 15 different codes) and type each one in by hand. Yeah… that takes way longer than letting it work automatically.

How can you catch the lowest prices without checking stores daily?

Honey’s Droplist sends you alerts when prices fall on items you like. Instead of checking stores each day, you’ll receive emails when something becomes cheaper.

Honey instantly alerts you when prices drop on items you want and rewards you with cashback from purchases
With the Honey app you get notifications when items drop in price and earn money back from your online shopping.

Adding items to your Droplist comes in several ways. The simplest method starts when you browse through partner stores online. You’ll see an orange “H” button at the top of your screen – click it, scroll down, and add what you want to track.

What makes this special? You decide exactly when you want updates. Tell Droplist to email you when prices drop by the amount you pick – maybe 5%, 25%, or even 95%.

The moment a price falls to your chosen level, an email heads straight to your inbox. No more missing out on sales because you weren’t checking the website.

There’s a small catch though… You’ll need separate alerts for the same item at different stores. Wouldn’t it be easier if one alert covered every store? I agree, but that’s not how it works right now.

To keep everything organized, you can sort your tracked items into different collections – kind of like having separate folders for different types of things you’re watching.

You might also want updates about store-wide sales. Just hit “follow” on your favorite stores, and you’ll know when they launch big promotions.

Something new they’re testing out is called “Smart Droplist.” It notices which items you keep looking at and automatically adds them to your tracking list. Don’t worry though – you choose whether to turn this on or not.

Can Amazon beat other stores’ prices?

Amazon shows prices for the same item from different sellers. Sometimes, another store sells it cheaper than Amazon. That’s where Honey comes in – it runs in the background while you browse.

Honey checks all the Amazon sellers first. When someone sells an item for less than Amazon’s price, Honey spots it right away. It shows you which seller offers the lowest price, helping you spend less. I checked this out myself, and it works perfectly.

Honey also looks at other stores like Walmart… well, kind of. This part doesn’t work as smoothly as checking Amazon sellers. Instead of telling you straight up where to find the best price, Honey keeps things a bit unclear.

But don’t worry – there’s a fix for that. Just click “See what else we found” and a new window opens up. You’ll see a list comparing all the stores selling what you want, with their prices laid out side by side.

Can friends help you make money on Honey?

The Honey app lets you earn extra money when friends join and shop online. You’ll find a special invite link in your account. When you send this link to your friends and they sign up, they become part of your team.

But there’s a catch – your friends need to shop at stores that work with Honey. They’ll need to buy something and get their cashback first. After that happens, you both get 500 gold points as a thank-you gift.

Just keep in mind you won’t see that gold right away. The app makes you wait about 60 days until the points show up in your account. And sadly, you only get points once from each friend – it doesn’t matter how much they shop after that first purchase.

Other apps give you points every time your friends buy something, which makes them better for earning over time. Honey keeps it simple – one friend, one purchase, one reward.

Note: You might also want to read about another app called Pie Adblock that pays you to block ads while browsing.

What happens when you earn points in Honey?

Honey gives you gold points when you use cashback offers and bring in new members. You’ll need 1,000 gold points before you can cash out – that equals a $10 gift card from shops working with Honey.

Your gold points turn into gift cards you can spend. But there’s something you should know… You can only pick gift cards from stores that work with Honey. And depending on where you live, you might not find any gift cards to use at all.

Now Honey added PayPal as an option too. Just remember – PayPal only works for specific items, so you won’t always be able to get your money that way. The whole system makes sense once you start using it. I find it helpful that they added PayPal as a way to get paid.

If PayPal payments work well for you, Pagazani and GG2U also send money through PayPal.

How much money can you make with Honey PayPal?

Two main factors determine your earnings: how much cashback you receive and which stores work with Honey.

When it comes to cashback, you’ll receive between 3% to 10% of what you spend. That means for every $100 you spend, you might receive $3 to $10 back. While some places offer more, these numbers aren’t bad if you’re already planning to buy something.

Now, about the stores… well, this is where things become less impressive. Sure, Honey works with many well-known shops, but compared to other cashback apps, their list of partner stores isn’t as long.

There’s a bright side though – Honey works with Amazon. When you shop on Amazon, Honey helps you find the lowest price for what you want to buy. That’s actually pretty useful when you need something specific.

Still, if we’re being honest, the smaller number of partner stores limits how much you can earn. A cashback app becomes more valuable when it works with lots of popular stores – that way, you have more chances to earn money back on stuff you buy anyway.

Since Honey doesn’t match up to other cashback apps in terms of partner stores, I wouldn’t count on making much money from it.

Can anyone make money with Honey?

You’ll find the Honey browser extension works anywhere in the world. But here’s what matters: you’ll only earn rewards if you live in specific countries. The main ones? The US, UK, Canada, and Australia top the list.

This means something important for you – signing up makes sense only when you call one of these countries home.

instant signup on Honey PayPal through Google, Apple or email
PayPal Honey sends real money to your account for online shopping, and signing up takes seconds with your Google, Apple or PayPal account.

The signup process gives you several options. You might pick your Google account, or go with Facebook. Apple users? That works too. And since PayPal owns Honey now, your PayPal login opens the door as well. When none of these fit? A simple email and password combo does the job.

What comes next? Once you’ve filled out your details, the Chrome extension needs a spot in your browser. This helps you make the most of what Honey offers.

The mobile route works differently. First, download the app to your phone. The same login choices pop up – Google, Facebook, Apple, or PayPal. Pick what feels right, sign in, and you’re set. Now the app stands ready for you to start earning.

Can your phone help you save money with this app?

The Honey app works on phones, and it comes with every single feature you’d find on your computer. You won’t miss out on any cashback deals just because you’re using your phone instead of a computer.

I should mention something important though… you might not find the app in your country’s app store. But if you can download it, you’ll see it works perfectly fine on both iPhones and Android phones.

What makes this app stand out? It’s super simple to figure out. The way everything’s laid out just makes sense – you’ll know exactly where to tap and what to do from the moment you open it. No complicated menus or confusing buttons to deal with.

You know what this means? You won’t need to sit at your computer anymore to save money while shopping. Your phone’s all you need.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Honey app?

When choosing whether Honey helps you save money, knowing what works and what doesn’t makes all the difference.

Advantages

  • My phone and computer both run Honey smoothly – I grabbed it from Google Play for my Android and downloaded it on my iPhone too.
  • The Chrome browser add-on spots discount codes while you shop online. I used to spend ages searching for coupons, but now it happens automatically.
  • Once you find something you want to buy, Honey checks every possible discount code. It tries them all until it finds one that saves you money.
  • You won’t waste time with old discount codes anymore. Honey removes expired coupons from your search results, so you only see ones that still work.

Disadvantages

  • The payment options don’t give you much choice. Most rewards come as gift cards instead of actual money in your account. I found this out after my first payout attempt.
  • You can’t cash out until you reach 1000 points – that’s about $10 worth of shopping.
  • Different countries get different perks… and some places hardly get any at all. When I checked the cashback rates, they weren’t as high as what other shopping apps offer.

Is Honey Legit or SCAM?

Honey works as a legit cashback platform, giving you money back and coupons when you shop. But I should tell you something important…

After watching Honey change over time, I don’t think it’s your best option anymore. The platform connects with fewer popular stores than before, which limits where you can save money.

Something else bothers me about Honey. I watched a video showing how it might work differently than what they say. Instead of finding you better prices, the extension might take commissions away from content creators – the YouTubers and website owners who work hard to make helpful content.

This matters because these creators spend countless hours making videos and writing articles to help others. If Honey takes their earnings without giving you actual savings in return, that’s not right.

I found better ways to save money online. Check out these 10 apps that pay you back without spending anything first. These apps work everywhere, and they all send you actual cash payments.

Each app on my list helps you earn money, no matter which country you call home.

What do you think about all this? Did you try Honey before? Share what happened when you used it – I’d like to know about your experience.
